ChroPath is light weight tool and a good user interface. ChroPath generates unique relative xpath, absolute xpath, cssSelectors just in single click. ChroPath can also be used as Editor for selectors. It makes easy to write, edit, extract, and evaluate XPath queries on any webpage. You can add chroPath extension in firefox from here: -US/firefox/addon/chropath-for-firefox/
For Firefox with Firebug: Right Click on HTML Dropdownlist, Select Inspect Element and In firebug, Right click and click copy InnerHTML option.

Development tools and other extensions is exactly the reason I use firefox the most, but I have to admit I do really like Opera. I would happily move over to Opera if, as you said they learn from this.
